Poular Nugerian financial guru has urged the organizers of the prestigious Headies awards to reconsider their tradition of gifting cars to the winners of the Next Rated Artist category.
The Next Rated Artist category at the Headies awards has been a much coveted award for many emerging talents in the Nigerian music industry. Winners of this coveted award have been rewarded with not only with recognition but also with a brand-new car as part of their prize package.
The self proclaimed financial guru, argued that the practice of gifting cars might not be the wisest financial decision, considering that some past winners had opted to sell their vehicles. Instead, he suggested that the headies organizers should shift be providing the winning artists with cash rewards.
Cash rewards, he suggested, would enable the artists to make more informed financial decisions that will align with their individual goals and priorities. He even advised some of the Artists to open their record label with the money they get off selling the car.
The award, which was tagged ‘Celebrating African Renaissance' was set to celebrate Afrobeats and African culture.
Recall that Rema, Asake, and Burna Boy were the top winners of the night with Rema carting home 3 awards; Best Male Artist, Best Digital Artist, and African Artist of the Year.
